On Saturday, October 29, a freak snow storm descended upon the northeast and plunged us into a state of chaos. In Connecticut, more than 800,000 lost power - including all of us in the Rosenberg clan. Weirdly, I didn't lose mine until Monday. I still want to know how that happened.
Anyway, it was cold and it got dark early. I had an unexpected week off from school. Here is what we did.
Dad didn't tolerate the cold AT ALL. The poor guy was just 2 days removed from surgery and this was the last thing he needed to deal with. During the day, he slept in front of the gas fireplace. I was concerned about CO poisoning and would not allow the fireplace to remain on at night. I think this annoyed him. He is so cute with the pink blanket!
Clio was a smart cat. She sought out the sunny spots and hung out there. She also liked to hide in amongst the big boxes that still litter the living room.
I don't have any pictures of David, but when he wasn't at work he was sleeping. He didn't seem to be too impacted by the cold or lack of lights.
I didn't mind the cold too much. It was the whole lack of electricity that got to me - when it got dark, I got really bored. I also got stupid in the dark. A word of advice - when it is dark and you can't see where you are going, DON'T RUN DOWN THE STAIRS. It will not end well. I promise. I managed to miss the last stair and landed on the side of my ankle. Wow, did that hurt. A LOT. Credit goes to both Dad and David for running to me (with their flashlights) as I lay screaming on the floor. It's now been 10 days since my injury and it still hurts.
This picture shows my ankle after 2 days pretty swollen (notice the sock marks that normally don't normally appear when I wear them) and not really bruised yet:
This picture is from today - gross bruising has started to appear (most of that dark stuff wasn't there this morning) and swollen again. Pretty!
So there you go, how some of the Rosenbergs survived the Snowpocalypse. Let's hope we don't ever have to go through that again...
