Car Rental Notes From Steve

He did not find a better rate via his employer, however he did find a better rate at Thrifty than at Enterprise. Using the code WEBTCR, he got a rate of £657.82 for 7/14-7/23 for an automatic "Full Size People Carrier". This does include a £12/day charge for drivers 70 and over...

Problem is that they won't offer the excess insurance coverage that eliminates damage for drivers 70 or over.....

i am not entirely sure of what you are saying here - they don't offer excess insurance instead of that per-day fee, maybe? or something else? but in any case, even with that fee, the total is way lower than enterprise, and there are multiple locations around London.

There are two separate issues:

1) Just to rent to a 70-year-old, THrifty UK charges an extra fee.

2) The included insurance coverage includes a £500 deductible on collision insurance. For most renters, for an additional fee can be paid to eliminate the deductible. BUt they don't offe that option to drivers 70 and older.

Generally, I have enough confidence in my driving that I take the standard deductible, but this isn't most countries. Dad, a very cautious driver, rented a car in Ireland and wiped out the outside mirror on the left side.

if you don't feel comfortable, pick the other one. the price at thrifty has gone up a bit since i posted this anyway, though it is still lower than enterprise. do check your credit card benefits though - some credit cards offer additional car rental insurance by default, and might already offer adequate protection.

This is not being easy.... :(

Trying to rent from Thrifty, UK website it transfers me to Barclays Bank to clear the credit card and that one requires additional information which is different format in UK and US and I can't get by Barclays Bank info. BTW, as of tonight, UK website accepts WEBTCR discount code, US one does not). Will try by phone - to UK of necessary.

We sure we don't want to travel by tour bus/train?????? (I know. I know. Just feeling extremely frustrated.)

Finally, car rental (Thrifty Mini-Van from US website) confirmed. I rented a GPS, as well.

Amy has copy of confirmation.
