London Calling

I think it's time we revive our blog...

Looking at things to do during our week in London, here are some preliminary ideas (and links) for things we can do.  This is in addition to what we've already booked (Stonehenge, HP Studio Tour):
I know I'm missing lots, this is just what I thought of off the top of my head.  If only I had some travel books to look at... ;)

Some bad news regarding Canterbury Cathedral - it appears the cathedral is pretty much closed while we are there for graduation ceremonies.  It probably isn't worth going to Canterbury at all because of that.  Is there some other day trip we want to try?  Maybe Dover or just drive around the countryside or something?  I'm open for anything.

My suggestion is the first thing we should do is take one of the blitzkreig (probably not a good term to use in the UK) tours. How about this one:

Bletchley Park is supposed to be fascinating - if one is into that kind of thing

i like the city tour idea, for early on - duck tour, double decker bus tour, whatever. (i do think we need to ride a double decker bus at some point!). how about the london museum? there's also a natural history museum that sounds like it would be a hit with HRH princess sophie (dinosaurs!), covent garden sounds like fun to wander in, and i'd like to go to borough market, personally, because i love food markets.

It seems there's a reason the duck boat tours haven't been going amphibious recenty. In the past couple of years, two have turned out to be less amphibious han advertised (they didn't float when they came down the ramp) and one turned to be far more flammable than adveised (It caught fire while in the Thames and folks went overboard to avoid the flames and smoke. No fatalities in any of the incidents, but whet passengers and, in the fire, lost passports.

I know Sophie can swim, but I'm thinking the busses..... They don't seem to have flipped any of those, so far.

As for borough market, if you plan on buying exotic stuff to bring home, be sure to check what customs allows and what it doesn't. There seem to be some strict restrictions on agricultural products (which may include spices, etc.). It can't hurt to be safe....

i am not planning to bring anything home - i have done enough international travel to know better than that. i like to eat; we need to eat while we are there, and i just like to wander around farmers markets. i have heard that they have fabulous grilled cheese at a stall in that market, among other things.

I know. I checked out the market.

Some of the shops/stalls will probably kill me. But at least I'll die with a smile on my face. (The bad news - you or Amy will have to do all the driving.)
